Science Olympiad team 2025

On February 22, South Harrison High School’s Science Olympiad team showcased their talent and determination as they competed in 18 different events, achieving an impressive milestone with 28 students participating—the largest team the school has fielded in the past ten years.

A total of 43 students initially signed up to compete, but state regulations allowed only two teams to officially enter, limiting participation to 28 competitors. Despite this, the team made an incredible showing, placing in 15 out of 18 events.

Science Olympiad sponsor Andrea Walton highlighted the significance of this year’s team composition, noting that for many, this was their first time competing. “This year was a learning year for most of the competitors since they had never competed before,” Walton shared. She also emphasized the importance of showcasing the team’s diversity, with many athletes from football, softball, and basketball participating in the competition. “I find it extremely important to showcase to the lower classmen that you can do sports and science at the same time.”

One of the most exciting takeaways from this year’s event was the enthusiasm it sparked among the students. Walton expressed her excitement upon hearing that some competitors are already strategizing for next year’s competition and looking for ways to improve their performance.

With such a strong showing this year and a growing interest in the competition, South Harrison’s Science Olympiad team is poised for even greater success in the future. The dedication of these students proves that excellence in academics and athletics can go hand in hand, setting an inspiring example for future competitors.
