South Harrison Bands Announce Winter Concerts and Celebrate Prestigious Achievements
South Harrison’s talented student musicians are gearing up for their annual Winter Concerts, a much-anticipated event that will showcase festive music and celebrate a season of accomplishments. The concerts will take place in the high school gym and are free and open to the public.
Middle School Winter Concert – Tuesday, December 17th at 6:00 PM
The Middle School Band Winter Concert will feature performances by the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade bands. This concert marks a special milestone for many of the students:
5th Grade Beginning Band: This will be their first-ever performance, showcasing the skills they’ve developed since the start of the school year.
6th Grade Band: The concert will also be their debut performance of the year.
7th Grade Band: After impressive appearances alongside the high school band at the Step Off Night football game and Veteran’s Day assembly, they are ready to shine in their first solo concert of the year.
The evening promises plenty of festive cheer, with a program of holiday favorites sure to delight the audience.
High School Winter Concert – Monday, December 16th at 6:00 PM
The High School Band Winter Concert will feature performances by the Concert Band and Jazz Band, following a successful marching band season that earned South Harrison numerous accolades:
MarchFest Triumph: The marching band concluded the season with a Grand Champion trophy, along with first-place finishes in Class III field show and parade categories at Cameron MarchFest.
For the Winter Concert, the Concert Band will present an energetic program including an arrangement of "Carol of the Bells," a mashup of Christmas classics, and Morten Lauridsen’s "O Magnum Mysterium." Meanwhile, the Jazz Band will bring holiday joy with a repertoire of classics, including "Frosty the Snowman," "I’ll Be Home for Christmas," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
International Recognition for South Harrison Students
In addition to preparing for the Winter Concerts, the South Harrison Band is celebrating three students who achieved international recognition. Kaci Brown, Logan Cornelison, and Piper Carver were selected to perform at the prestigious Western International Band Clinic (WIBC) in Seattle, Washington.
WIBC features top student musicians from around the globe, with participants selected through a highly competitive audition process. The South Harrison Band expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the individuals and businesses whose generous support made it possible for these students to represent their school on the international stage.
