The South Harrison cheer team has an action-packed schedule as they prepare for major competitions, performances, and tryouts in the coming weeks. Head Coach Courtney Schoning shared her excitement about the team’s progress and upcoming opportunities.
Game Day at Drury University
The team will head to Drury University in Springfield, MO, on February 22 and 23 to compete in the Band Chant, Timeout, and Fight Song categories. Additionally, two of South Harrison’s stunt groups will compete individually, showcasing their skills against top teams.
“We’ve been working hard to perfect each routine and bring our best to the competition,” said Coach Schoning. “This team is incredibly dedicated, and I’m confident their hard work will shine on the mat.”
A showcase for Game Day will be held on Friday, March 21, at 6 PM in the South Harrison High School gym. This will be a great opportunity for family, friends, and fans to cheer on the team before they take the stage at Drury University.
State Basketball Performances
The cheerleaders will also perform during halftime at the state basketball games on Wednesday, March 19. Performances are scheduled for 10 AM, 12 PM, and 2 PM, giving the team a chance to energize the crowd and support so many athletes.
“Our basketball halftime performances are always a favorite,” Schoning said. “It’s an honor to perform at state and represent South Harrison on such a big stage.”
Cheer Tryouts for 2024-2025
For students interested in joining the cheer team for the next school year, tryouts are quickly approaching. An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, March 7, at 6:45 AM in the High School Commons.
Tryout practices will take place on March 18, 20, and 24, from 5–8 PM in the high school gym. The official tryouts are scheduled for March 26 at 5 PM.
“We’re always excited to welcome new talent to the team,” said Schoning. “Cheerleading is such a rewarding experience, and I encourage anyone interested to come to the meeting and give it a shot.”
