The South Harrison Vocal Department, led by Director Kierra Shelby, is having an outstanding semester with a series of impressive performances and exciting opportunities for her students.
Basketball Game Performances
The choir has been a regular feature at home basketball games since the season began, showcasing their talent and school spirit. Most recently, they performed the National Anthem at the Homecoming basketball game, a moment that brought pride to the entire South Harrison community.
Homecoming Variety Show
Several choir students also participated in the Variety Show following the Homecoming Coronation, either hosting or performing, further highlighting their dedication and versatility.
Upcoming Events
The choir is preparing for several major events in the coming weeks:
GRC Honor Choir – February 8
MWSU Honor Choir – February 14
Carnegie Hall Debut – Senior Conner will represent South Harrison on a national stage, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York during the first week of February.
“We’re so proud of Conner for this incredible achievement,” said Shelby. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we can’t wait to see him shine!”
District Contest Preparations
Choir students are also hard at work preparing solos and ensembles for the District Solo and Small Ensemble Contest. Two sextets and a trio have been coming in for extra practices to fine-tune their performances.
Community Engagement
The choir has been invited to perform their contest solos and ensemble pieces for a group at the Methodist Church this April, providing another chance to share their hard work with the community.
“I am so incredibly proud of them, their hard work, and their growth,” Shelby said. “This group of students is so dedicated and talented. Their efforts are paying off in so many ways, and I’m excited to see what the rest of the semester holds for them.”
With so many accomplishments and events on the horizon, the South Harrison Vocal Department continues to make the school and community proud. Be sure to catch their upcoming performances and support these talented musicians!
