Our Middle School has achieved an incredible milestone, ranking 6th in the state for outstanding student growth in mathematics during the 2022-23 school year. This prestigious recognition comes from the PRiME Center at Saint Louis University, a non-partisan research organization dedicated to improving educational policies and student outcomes in Missouri.
A Journey of Dedication and Progress
In 2019, our Middle School was placed in Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) for being among the lowest-performing schools in the state. Through perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to excellence, the school has now risen to an impressive 6th place for mathematics growth, a testament to the dedication of both students and educators.
8th grade math teacher, Shelly Smith, reflected on this journey, emphasizing the collective effort: "This award truly reflects the hard work of our math teachers and students in raising our MAP scores." She credited Principal Mrs. Gamble as a key inspiration, stating that her leadership played a vital role in their success.
A Shared Achievement for Students and Teachers
This recognition is a result of the dedication, persistence, and effort of both students and teachers who have worked tirelessly to improve math proficiency. Steph Molloy, 7th grade math teacher, highlighted the collaborative effort behind this recognition: "This success was possible because of the dedication of our principal, teachers, support staff, and, most importantly, our students. They embraced the challenges we set before them and worked incredibly hard to master essential math skills."
Likewise, Kelli Russell from 6th grade, acknowledged the commitment of students who show up daily, ready to learn, and praised the math team for pushing themselves to become the best versions of themselves to help students succeed. "Our students have shown incredible determination, and their growth is proof of their hard work."
In the lower grades, Tina Granier, 5th grade math teacher, emphasized the importance of teamwork in the math department: "I am grateful to be part of a team that shares ideas and supports one another. Our students deserve this success, and I couldn’t be prouder of their achievements."
Jeanne Hamilton and Teresa Griffith, both Special Education math teachers, praised the resilience of their students and the dedication of the math department. Hamilton expressed pride in her students' dedication and hard work, stating, "This award means so much to me because it represents the perseverance of our students and the collaboration of our teachers." Griffith added, "Our students' progress in math is truly inspiring. Their determination to tackle challenges and master new skills is remarkable."
Looking Ahead
This achievement underscores the power of teamwork and perseverance. The math department, administration, and students have set a high standard for success, proving that with the right support and dedication, significant academic growth is possible. This recognition is not just a celebration of past success but a motivation to continue striving for excellence in mathematics education. Congratulations to our Middle School students and teachers for this outstanding accomplishment!
